Scott's
review:
Finally I got down
to actually reviewing the BMI volume 3 video. After
having it for over a month now, I have been too busy
watching it over and over instead of reviewing it
for you guys. Sorry about that. ^_^
Anyway, I must say
that I am captivated by the latest installment from
the Best Motoring crew on this issue. Volume 3 is
by far the best issue yet to grace our shores! Chock-full
of exciting content as well as a new format which
is perfect for the International audience. BMI has
taken into account all of the viewers comments and
come up with a winning combination of English language
dub in some places while in other places retaining
the original Japanese language dialogue with pretty
accurate and informative sub titles.

On first viewing the subtitles
can be a little much to read at pace while watching the
action unfold on the screen. However, I doubt anyone will
ever watch this video only once and by the second time your
timing and beat will improve to where it is unobjectionable
to read and see. Most of all the original character of the
Japanese BM crew is intact and the tiny nuances in the voices
and styles of personality come through with a clear presence.
It's great in that all the excitement the drivers feel during
the heated battles is conveyed through viewing the video.
No more semi-enthused English over dubs during the machine
to machine battles. At the same time BMI has chosen to leave
the English dub track in certain areas where technical aspects
of the cars are gone over and none of the translation is
off or bad. This is by far the best solution so far for
the ever evolving BMI series of videos.
First up in content is the
very comprehensive test of the new 996 Turbo Porsche. You
are treated to 1/4 mile tests versus the likes of the Skyline
R34 GTR Vspec II, and Ferrari 360 Modena. Gan san shows
just how much the PSM (Porsche Stability Management) works
in the handling and controllability of the car. Then The
new Turbo is tested and compared to other machines on a
Gymkhana course. Which seems to be basically like a very
technical auto cross course with controlled and varying
wet/dry conditions. Finally Nakaya san takes you on a technical
tour of the car's underbelly and inner workings. Very interesting...gear
heads will love this part.
Next Up is the Gan san based
introduction of the Euro market Honda Civic Type-R. Gan
san goes over the car's driveability on the open roads in
France, as well as on the Magny Cours circuit. This a very
cool segment in which we get a glimpse of a car that MANY
people here in the U.S. wish we could get. Although it's
not likely the U.S. will ever get the Civic-R so this segment
is a good dream piece.
Finally is a GREAT battle
between some of the top JDM sports cars (4wd and 2wd) as
well as some of the other super cars the world has to offer.
The cars include the Chevy Corvette C5 with the Z-51 suspension
setup, the Ferrari 360 Modena with a Tubi Exhaust (which
is the ONLY way this car should sound!), the Honda NSX Type-S,
Lancer EVO VII, R34 GTR Vspec II, and Porsche 996 Turbo.
The outcome may surprise you. But I won't spoil it for you
here, you'll have to see the video. I was on the edge of
my seat at times...laughing all the way.
Last is a Battle between
the Porsche Turbo, Ferrari 360 Modena, and Nismo GTR. This
battle concentrates on how well the JDM market cars would
do against 400+ HP machines without the gentlemen's regulated
280hp limit. You won't want to miss this one as well.
Overall, I think this is
the best issue so far to come from the Best Motoring International
crew. And frankly I can't wait for the next one. I'm hooked
for sure. These videos are very addicting!
